The Top Three Free To Play FPSs
A list I compiled for absolutely no reason
June 16, 2011
First Person Shooters, or FPSs for short, are an extremely popular genre of games, due to their addictive plots and, well... The fun of killing people. 😛
So, Popular FPSs are generally expensive, and thus arises the need for free FPSs to download and play.
I began my research for this post with an article in Wikipedia on freeware FPSs and discovered quite a few games that had been unknown to me until then, which turned out quite fascinating and exhilarating.
But that wasn't all, I wandered about like a cloud throughout the vast lands of the internet, until I finally managed to choose the top three that made my list.
3. Alliance of Valiant Arms (A.V.A)
Alliance of Valiant Arms, or A.V.A for short, boasts surreal and vivid rendering as it uses the Unreal Engine. One of the better looking FreeToPlay First Person Shooters, A.V.A, is yet another Massively Multiplayer Online FPS, which is one of the downsides. Apart from that, what kept me playing were its varied gameplay modes, including Escort Mode, which is the one that grabs the player and doesn't let go.
2. America's Army 3
It was on July 4, 2002, that the US Army released the original version of America's Army, its free, multiplayer first-person shooter designed to be both a recruiting and public relations tool. The Army has issued a major new revision called America's Army 3, but this time it launched it on June 17.
America's Army 3 almost feels like a reboot for the Army, as the series finally undergoes the graphical overhaul to Unreal Engine 3 that the rest of the industry made years ago. The heart of the game is in its team-based multiplayer battles. There's no free-for-all deathmatch; everything you do is geared toward the idea of working as a squad of US Army soldiers. Again, the series' convention works brilliantly here, as both sides in each match see themselves as US Army soldiers and their opponents as the OPFOR, or opposition force. (In this case, the OPFOR are a generic, fictional nationality.)
1. Crossfire
Ok, Well, Many of the critics might not agree with me here, but Crossfire grabbed the number one spot, but I'm not a large download fanatic. Games that have awesome gameplay, maybe not that awesome graphics, but a small download size appeal to me. And Crossfire, due to its resemblance to Counter Strike 1.6, one of the most played FPSs, is increasing in its popularity and is quickly being reckoned at the best online FPS presently.
A large number of game modes, including a curious yet interesting Ghost mode, and a 268MB download definitely make Crossfire the best yet.
It's Counter Strike for free.

Abhinav, It's a list of Free FPS. **Free**.
I wasn't aware there are free FPS, and you gave three! I will check which one I like the most.
Well I wasn't aware as well, until I did my research. Sure do. And, you're welcome. 😛
I got what you intend, appreciate it for putting up.Woh I am thankful to find this website through google.
One flaw that I would like to point out in your list is LAG. These games neither have a good Indian playerbase nor localised versions, this would result in playing with Americans or Europeans or other asian countries(Malaysia has a huge gamer community) which would make you play on foreign servers and it would take longer for your computer to communicate with the server and hence make you ragequit after some time.
I have been exploring for a little for any high-quality articles or blog posts on this kind of area . Exploring in Yahoo I at last stumbled upon this web site. Reading this information So i am happy to convey that I've a very good uncanny feeling I discovered exactly what I needed. I most certainly will make sure to do not forget this web site and give it a look on a constant basis.
Appreciate it!
